Honda City Hatchback Finally Coming to Malaysia
October 21, 2021 Andrew Cheng

As promised, Honda Malaysia is bringing in a brand new model to the Malaysian market: enter the Honda City Hatchback. As its name suggests, this is essentially the hatchback version of the fifth-generation City sedan currently sold in Malaysia, and the RS trim of the B-segment hatchback will likely make its debut here too.

Honda Malaysia posted a teaser of the City Hatchback in full RS e:HEV trim on its Facebook page, which should have the same hybrid powertrain as the City sedan counterpart of the same variant. The caption also reads “Move aside. Y? Because This. Is. It” – the Y is likely a reference to another B-segment hatchback, the Toyota Yaris.

Beyond this cheeky teaser, no other details on the City hatchback have been revealed, though we reckon it will match most of the sedan version’s equipment. This RS e:HEV model, for one – which outputs 109PS and 253Nm of torque out of an electric motor – should come with Honda Sensing’s suite of driver assistance safety systems as well.

Aside from the RS e:HEV trim of the City Hatchback, the Malaysian market will likely get the petrol models too. They should feature the same 1.5L DOHC i-VTEC engine found in the City sedan that outputs 121PS and 145Nm of torque. Naturally, the mill is paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with drive sent to the front wheels.

Now that Honda Malaysia has started teasing the Honda City Hatchback, there’s a good chance the B-segment model will be introduced here very, very soon. Rest assured, we will keep a close eye on this.
