M1 Pro & M1 Max Are Apple’s New Processors for Its MacBook Pro Laptops
October 19, 2021 Andrew Cheng

Naturally, Apple’s brand new MacBook Pro models have to be powered by the Cupertino company’s equally new processors, and they’re very, very fast. Enter the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, which are up to four times faster than the M1 processor.

Of course, that claim is for the M1 Max; according to Apple, this chip’s 32-core GPU can deliver 4x faster graphics performance over the M1. As for the M1 Pro, it offers up to 2x faster GPU performance than the M1 – still very respectable, of course.

In the CPU department, both the M1 Pro and M1 Max share the same 10-core CPU: eight of them are high-performance cores, while the other two are high-efficiency cores. Anyway, compared to the M1, this 10-core CPU is up to 70% faster. Basically, you’re getting much improved performance with the M1 Pro and M1 Max.

Even with these impressive performance upgrades, the M1 Pro and M1 Max continues to offer excellent power efficiency. After all, the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models – which are powered by these two new chips – offer up to 17 hours and 21 hours of battery life respectively.
