Twitch Confirms Data Breach – Change Your Password Now

Twitch just confirmed that it has suffered a data breach; a pretty big one too. If you have a Twitch account, it’s highly recommended to change your password now and enable two-factor authentication.

Even though Twitch has issued a response concerning the data breach, the company said that it is still “working with urgency to understand the extent” of the breach. Based on numerous reports, it’s quite serious: even the source code of the streaming service itself was exposed, not to mention details of creator payouts.

Interestingly, the initial data leak does not include email accounts or passwords of Twitch users. However, this leak is also only labeled as “part one,” so there’s a good chance more leaked data will be released. On top of that, some users have already been asked to change their Twitch passwords.

Needless to say, even if user passwords and email addresses of Twitch users have not been leaked (yet), it’s always best to err on the side of caution and change the password of your Twitch account immediately. If you haven’t already, activate two-factor authentication as well for enhanced security.
