Driving Schools Allowed to Operate From 9 September – Only for Fully Vaccinated Folks
September 7, 2021 Andrew Cheng

More sectors will be allowed to operate in the first phase of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) from 9 September onwards, including driving schools. Of course, there are a number of SOPs that have to be followed, and only fully vaccinated candidates are allowed to take their examinations.

This was revealed by the Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong. While driving schools will be allowed to operate from 9 September onwards, the examination to obtain a driving license will only commence on 17 September. This is done to ensure that driving institutes and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) have enough time to manage any possible issues that candidates may face.

Aside from candidates, employees and teaching staff of driving schools are also required to be fully vaccinated. Naturally, candidates that show symptoms of COVID-19 infection are not allowed into driving schools either; same goes for those who are located in Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) areas.

Driving schools are only allowed to operate at 60% capacity if 40% of its employees are fully vaccinated; the capacity goes up to 80% if 60% of staff received complete vaccinations. If 80% of their staff have been vaccinated, these driving institutes are allowed to operate at full capacity.
