No Free PS5 Upgrade for Next God of War – $10 Charge for Cross-Gen Access
September 6, 2021 Andrew Cheng

When Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) confirmed that Horizon Forbidden West will be getting a free upgrade from the PS4 to the PS5 version, the company also revealed that the next God of War will not receive the same treatment. Instead, players will need to pay a fee to access the game on both the PS4 and PS5.

This was confirmed by the President and CEO of SIE, Jim Ryan. “PlayStation first party exclusive cross-gen titles (newly releasing on PS4 and PS5) – both digital and physical – will offer a $10 digital upgrade option from PS4 to PS5. This will apply to the next God of War and Gran Turismo 7, and any other exclusive cross-gen PS4 and PS5 title published by SIE,” he said.

Of course, it remains to be seen exactly how much the $10 (about RM40) cost will translate to the Malaysian market for those who are planning to upgrade to the PS5 version of any first party PlayStation game from the PS4. Chances are, it should be below the RM50 mark, though this is only our own educated guess.

Anyway, speaking of God of War, we may be getting our first look at the new PlayStation exclusive game during the PlayStation Showcase event this Friday on 10 September. You can watch the livestream of the event at 4AM Malaysian time on that day.
