2022 Proton Iriz Unveiled – New SUV-Style Active Variant, LED Lights, From RM40,300
August 5, 2021 Andrew Cheng

Here it is: Proton just unveiled the brand new 2022 Proton Iriz. That’s right, the facelifted hatchback is dubbed by Proton to be the 2022 model instead of 2021, and just as previous leaks and rumours have revealed, there’s a new range-topping Active variant too.

Now, only three models of the Iriz are available. The base 1.3 Standard costs RM40,300, while the higher-end 1.6 Executive is priced at RM47,100. As for the range-topping Active trim, it retails at RM54,000. That’s right, there’s no more manual transmission.

Do note that these prices are with sales tax exemption applied, which are valid until 31 December 2021. Without the exemption, the Standard, Executive, and Active models cost RM500, RM700, and RM800 more respectively.

Naturally, the Iriz Active gets all the bells and whistles. This SUV-like B-segment hatchback features quite a number of sporty stylings, including new 16-inch alloy wheels (the Executive gets it too), roof rails with a blacked-out roof, semi leather seats, aluminium pedals, and of course, LED headlights.

Further completing the new looks of the Iriz Active include wheel arch extensions finished in black, an updated Infinite Weave grille with a sporty red accent finish, as well as Proton’s new circular logo. All in all, we’re liking the updated looks of the hatchback.

The interior of the new Iriz gets some very nice upgrades too. The Active model is the only one to get a black and red colour scheme for the interior – including bright red seat belts! – along with a large 8-inch floating infotainment system with the updated “Hi Proton” voice command.

Under the hood, the 2022 Iriz soldiers on with the same engine options. The 1.3L mill for the Standard model outputs 95PS and 120Nm of torque, while the 1.6L engine for the Active and Executive variants produces 109PS and 150Nm of torque.

Both engines are paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). It wasn’t mentioned in the press release if Proton further tuned the transmission for a more refined driving experience, but we’ll definitely keep an eye out for any changes.

The 2022 Proton Iriz is now available for booking online. To recap, the 1.3 Standard is priced at RM40,300, while the Executive and Active models cost RM47,100 and RM54,000 respectively. These prices are valid until 31 December 2021, unless the government further extends the sales tax exemption.
