After teasing the 2021 Hyundai Kona N Line back in May, Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) just launched the sporty B-segment SUV today. On top of that, HSDM also introduced the Kona 1.6 Turbo – both new models feature the same Smartstream G1.6 T-GDi four-cylinder engine.
Let’s get to the pricing of the two new Kona models first. The 1.6 Turbo variant is priced at RM146,888 – RM10,000 more than the 2.0 Active trim – while the sportier-looking N Line costs RM156,888; also a RM10,000 price difference compared to the 1.6 Turbo.
Since these are CBU units from South Korea, these prices are with the 50% sales tax exemption applied.
The biggest draw of the Kona N Line and 1.6 Turbo models is obviously the 1.6L turbocharged engine under the hood. This engine outputs a whopping 198PS and 265Nm of torque, and drive is sent to the front wheels via a Smartsteam seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Aesthetically, the Kona N Line sports a more aggressive-looking exterior than the 1.6 Turbo. It has a different grille design, sportier LED headlamps, a revised rear bumper with two exhaust pipes, as well as 18-inch alloy wheels with a new, busier-looking design.
Inside the cabin, the Kona N Line gets some neat changes here and there to complete the sporty look of the B-segment SUV. You get N Line-branded bucket seats with red stitching, a gear knob with the N Line branding, and of course, a leather wrapped steering wheel with – you guessed it – the N Line logo.
Safety wise, both the Kona N Line and 1.6 Turbo feature Hyundai’s SmartSense suite of active safety features. It offers Forward Collision-avoidance Assist (FCA), Blind-spot Collision-avoidance Assist (BCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), and Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop and Go.
The 2021 Hyundai Kona N Line and 1.6 Turbo models are now available for booking online here in Malaysia through Hyundai’s new online shopping platform, “Cl!ck to Buy.” To recap, the N Line is priced at RM156,888, while the 1.6 Turbo model costs RM146,888.
