Previously, it was rumoured that the MacBook Pro laptops with mini-LED displays will be introduced sometime in September this year. But what about the more affordable MacBook Air? Well, it may receive the screen upgrade in 2022 instead.
This was revealed through a new investor note from renowed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo obtained by 9to5Mac and MacRumors. According to Kuo, the MacBook Air will debut with a mini-LED display sometime in the middle of 2022.
But unlike the mini-LED panel upgrade for the smaller MacBook Pro – which supposedly increases the screen size from 13.3-inch to 14.1-inch – the MacBook Air is said to retain the same 13.3-inch display. Chances are, this is done to differentiate the hardware of the two laptops.
Compared to a regular LCD screen, a mini-LED display offers better contrast ratio and wider dynamic range, making for a better viewing experience. So far, only the new M1-powered iPad Pro features a mini-LED screen, and we reckon Apple will use the display in more of its products moving forward.
