OnePlus Nord 2 5G Unveiled – Coming to Malaysia Soon
July 22, 2021 Andrew Cheng

The true successor to the original OnePlus Nord is here. The aptly named OnePlus Nord 2 5G naturally features a number of upgrades, including a larger battery and a much faster chipset, courtesy of the MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI.

Although MediaTek chipsets aren’t as popular as Qualcomm’s offerings, the new Dimensity 1200-AI is a very, very promising SoC. In fact, a previous benchmark shows that it can actually keep up with the Snapdragon 870 chipset, which is essentially a faster version of the Snapdragon 865, Qualcomm’s flagship chip last year.

Anyway, aside from its processor, the Nord 2 now features a triple camera system instead of a quad camera setup, though it does seem to be more capable. It is made up of a 50MP primary sensor with optical image stabilisation, an 8MP ultra-wide angle shooter, and a 2MP monochrome lens.

Other specifications of the Nord 2 include a 6.43-inch 2400 x 1080 Fluid AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, a 32MP selfie camera, up to 12GB of RAM, two storage options (128GB or 256GB), a generous 4,500mAh battery, as well as OxygenOS 11.3 based on Android 11 out of the box.

No word yet on exactly when the OnePlus Nord 2 5G will be available here in Malaysia, but we did spot it in SIRIM’s database. Chances are, the Malaysian launch of the mid-range smartphone will happen very soon – we’ll know the local pricing of the Nord 2 then.
