Unreleased Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Appears in SIRIM – Malaysian Launch Soon?
July 20, 2021 Andrew Cheng

The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 is rumoured to be unveiled sometime next month alongside a slew of other products – including several foldable smartphones – and surprisingly enough, the wireless earbuds have been registered with SIRIM. This suggests that Malaysia could be one of the first markets to receive the Buds 2.

In our routine search through SIRIM’s database, we noticed that Samsung Malaysia registered the Galaxy Buds 2 with the model number SM-R177 just yesterday on 19 July. Every electronic product has to be registered with SIRIM first before it can be officially sold in Malaysia, so there’s a good chance the earbuds will be available here soon.

Based on leaks and rumours, the Galaxy Buds 2 looks to be a reasonably appealing pair of wireless earbuds. Some of its key features were leaked from an early beta of Samsung’s very own Galaxy Wearable app for the earbuds, including support for active noise cancellation (ANC).

In fact, the Galaxy Buds 2 allows ANC to be activated even when just one earbud is used. It’s even possible to customise the touch controls of the earbuds, or just outright disable them. The battery capacities of the Buds 2 were shown in the app too: each earbud supposedly has a 61mAh battery, while the charging case features a 472mAh cell.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 is expected to be unveiled sometime next month at the South Korean company’s upcoming Unpacked event, which is rumoured to be taking place on 11 August 2021.
