Proton just confirmed in a press release that it has begun vaccinating its employees from today onwards. Staff of the national carmaker who have not been vaccinated yet have been notified of their appointments through the MySejahtera app; the vaccination exercise will be taking place over the next few days.

In an effort to vaccinate its employees, Proton has repurposed its sports complex at the Tanjung Malim plant in Perak to be an industry vaccine dispensing centre (PPVIN). It’s capable of administering 800 doses of vaccine daily, and it will be operating for six days to ensure that Proton staff – as well as its vendors based there – will be vaccinated.

As for Proton’s staff at its Shah Alam headquarters, they will be vaccinated at the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC) instead. This is because there’s no space large enough at the carmaker’s Shah Alam headquarters for a temporary PPV that complies with SOP requirements.

“Proton hopes that by vaccinating our staff, we will contribute to reducing the number of COVID-19 infections in Malaysia. With other companies undertaking similar initiatives, this should help in efforts to restart the automotive industry that has been put on hold by lockdown measures,” said the CEO of Proton, Dr Li Chunrong.

This vaccination exercise will be repeated three weeks later for the second dose of the vaccine. With this in mind, Proton expects most of its employees to be fully vaccinated by the first half of August 2021.
