This Is the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback – Slightly Different Looks, 6-Speed Manual
June 24, 2021 Andrew Cheng

Honda just unveiled the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback, and unlike its predecessor, the new hatchback looks quite a bit more distinctive than its sedan counterpart. Sporting different rear and front designs, the C-segment model gets a six-speed manual option as well.

Let’s start with the 11th generation Civic Hatchback’s rear end. Compared to the sedan version, the taillights of the hatchback model is more rounded, and there’s even a thin strip of light that joins them together. It’s quite a departure from the 10th generation Civic Hatchback too, which had almost identical taillights to the sedan model.

On the front, the 2022 Civic Hatchback also gets a slightly different grille. Not only is it concaved, it also has a hexagonal mesh design instead of the sedan’s more…mature-looking horizontal slats. This grille certainly gives the hatchback a sportier appeal, though the overall design of the car still looks more mature than the 10th generation model.

Naturally, the new Civic Hatchback has the same engine as its sedan counterpart. For the US market, it still comes with either a 2.0L NA engine (158hp/187Nm torque) or a retuned 1.5L turbocharged mill that outputs 180hp and 240Nm of torque – that’s 6hp and 20Nm more torque than the previous 1.5L turbo engine.

Other specifications of the 11th generation Civic Hatchback include a CVT or six-speed manual gearbox, 10 airbags, an updated single-camera Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver assistance systems, as well as a cleaner-looking, more premium interior.

Given that Honda Malaysia has always brought in the sedan version of the Civic, it’s unlikely the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback will make it here. Nonetheless, there’s a chance the Civic will make its Malaysian debut sometime this year.
