Samsung Galaxy Xcover 5 Rugged Smartphone Coming to Malaysia Soon
June 14, 2021 Andrew Cheng

Samsung released quite a number of rugged smartphones over the years, but most of them are not available here in Malaysia. Well, this could change in the near future: there’s a possibility Samsung Malaysia is gearing up to launch the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 5 on our shores.

As usual, we were going through SIRIM’s database when we spotted the Galaxy Xcover 5 – with the model number SM-G525F/DS – registered under Samsung Malaysia just today on 14 June. Electronics have to be registered with SIRIM first before they can be officially sold here, so there’s a chance the Xcover 5 will be made available locally soon.

Unveiled back in March 2021, the Galaxy Xcover 5 is not an awfully high-end smartphone, though it is a very durable device. It can withstand drops up to 1.5m, it has an IP68 dust and water resistance, and it even comes with a Glove Touch feature to increase the touch sensitivity of the screen for those who need to operate the phone with gloves on.

Other specifications of the Galaxy Xcover 5 include a 5.3-inch HD+ screen, a Samsung Exynos 850 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, a 3,000mAh battery – it’s user-replaceable, by the way – a 16MP rear camera, a 5MP selfie shooter, and Android 11 out of the box.

We haven’t heard from Samsung Malaysia on the local availability of the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 5, but it’s worth noting that a support page for the phone is already up on Samsung Malaysia’s website. Given that the Xcover 5 is already registered with SIRIM, there’s a good chance the phone will be introduced here soon.
