Asus’ range of gaming keyboards may not be particularly well-known, but the Taiwanese company just launched a brand new keyboard for the Malaysian market. Enter the Asus ROG Claymore II gaming keyboard; not only is it wireless, it also sports a detachable numpad…for RM999.

That’s right, the ROG Claymore II gaming keyboard retails at a whopping RM999 for the Malaysian market, though it does come with a number of rather intriguing features. Aside from the fact that it’s a wireless keyboard (via a USB receiver) with a built-in battery and detachable numpad, it also features Asus’ very own optical switch.

The switch is dubbed ROG RX, and it’s offered in 55g RX Red (linear) and 60g – though the tactile bump peaks at 65g – RX Blue (clicky) switches. According to Asus, one of the advantages of these two optical switches is fast actuation with “near-zero debounce delay,” especially compared to a traditional switch.

Aside from that, the ROG RX switch also features a rather unique hollow square stem design. With four “corner latches” and a scissor-style stabiliser, the switch is said to have very little keystroke wobble. Although the unique stem design of the switch makes it incompatible with MX-style keycaps, it’s really quite an intriguing optical switch.

Other features of the ROG Claymore II include a 4,000mAh battery that promises up to 144 hours of use – or 43 hours with the backlighting on – per-key RGB lighting (of course), and a magnetic wrist rest.

The Asus ROG Claymore II wireless gaming keyboard will be available for pre-order in Malaysia from 22 to 29 May; early birds will also get an ROG Scabbard II mousepad (worth RM199) for free. Retailing at RM999, the Claymore II is unmistakably a costly keyboard, though it does have a number of unique features.
