If you missed the previous opt-in for the AstraZeneca vaccine in Malaysia, great news: registration for the second batch will be open this coming Sunday on 23 May. However, this round of opt-in is only for those above 60 years old, though it is now available in more states.
This was announced by Khairy Jamaluddin, the coordinating minister for the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme. The second opt-in for the AstraZeneca vaccine will be done online (on 23 May) or via community clinic outreach, and it will be available in Selangor, KL, Penang, Sarawak, and Johor.
According to Khairy, these states are getting the AstraZeneca vaccine first as they record the highest COVID-19 cases. Of course, folks above 60 are prioritised as they are more vulnerable to the virus; the vaccine will also be sent out to elderly care homes.
If you’re in the waiting list from the previous AstraZeneca opt-in session – even though you’re not above 60 – don’t worry. Khairy mentioned that “those on the present round one waitlist will get appointments,” so rest assured, you will be getting the vaccine as well.
Again, this second round of AstraZeneza vaccine opt-in is happening this Sunday on 23 May. If you’re above 60 and you reside in Selangor, KL, Penang, Sarawak, or Johor, you can opt-in for the vaccine online here on that day.
