Intel just took the wraps off its latest 11th generation Tiger Lake-H mobile chips, and they seem quite promising. While the chipmaker already unveiled a number of Tiger Lake-H processors, these new chips offer more cores and (naturally) faster performances – they can even outpace AMD’s Ryzen 5000 processors.

Out of all the new Tiger Lake-H chips introduced today, the Core i9-11980HK octa-core, 16-thread processor with a 65W TDP is the highest-end offering; it’s also the only unlocked model in the lineup. In Intel’s testing, this chip consistently outperforms AMD’s equally high-end Ryzen 5900HX octa-core, 16-thread chip (45W default TDP) in a number of games.

These include Far Cry New Dawn, Hitman 3, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, and even Total War: Three Kingdoms.

Aside from that, Intel also compared the performance of the more modest Core i5-11400H hexa-core, 12-thread processor (35W TDP) to AMD’s Ryzen 9 5900HS octa-core, 16-thread chip (35W TDP). Out of the seven games tested, the Core i5-11400H slightly outperforms the Ryzen 9 5900HS processor in four titles, which is certainly quite impressive.

It’s worth noting that the two processors were tested with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 mobile GPU in a slim and light gaming laptop. However, the Core i5-11400H’s paired GPU has a lower 65W TGP compared to the Ryzen 9 5900HS’ GPU with a TGP of 80W. Despite this, Intel’s offering can still deliver slightly better gaming performance.

Of course, given that these tests were done by Intel itself, we do have to do our own testing to verify the validity of these results.

Nonetheless, there’s no denying that Intel’s latest Tiger Lake-H mobile processors look very promising. We expect laptop makers to update their respective range of gaming laptops with Intel’s new chips very soon.
