Spy Shot: 2021 Proton Persona & Iriz Active – More Premium Interior, 16-inch Wheels, LED Headlights
May 7, 2021 Andrew Cheng

Proton’s upcoming 2021 Iriz and Persona facelift have been spotted in the wild yet again, and this is our best look yet at the new B-segment models. Not only do we have a shot of the two cars’ interiors, we’ve got quite a number of exterior images too, including the 2021 Proton Iriz Active – the crossover version of the Iriz.

These images come from local automotive sites Wapcar, Automachi, as well as Funtasticko. Let’s start with the 2021 Persona first, which doesn’t see a lot of exterior changes at a glance. But upon closer inspection, it now features larger 16-inch alloy wheels, an updated Infinite Weave grille, and also LED headlights.

Of course, the new circular Proton logo is used here as well.

The interior of the 2021 Persona sees a more drastic change. Not only does it come with brown leather seats now – very reminiscent of the Proton X70‘s Nappa leather seats – the centre console has been revamped as well. There’s a new floating infotainment screen, and the air-conditioning vents are now located right below it instead of the sides.

Another thing of note is the air-conditioning controls of the new Persona. Based on a different set of leaked images – which is said to be the Iriz’s interior, though both models will likely share a similar interior – the controls are now digital. This will certainly give the B-segment models a more premium appeal.

Moving on, we have the Iriz Active. Yes, the crossover version of the B-segment hatchback is believed to be carrying the Active moniker. Unlike the facelifted Persona, the Iriz Active looks much more different than the current model. It has wheel arch extensions finished in black, roof rails, a redesigned Infinite Weave grille, as well as Proton’s new logo.

Overall, the Iriz Active does look quite a bit sportier than the regular model. The new LED headlights, 16-inch wheels, and silver trim surrounding the lower grille further add to the sportiness of the crossover. Unfortunately, rumours are suggesting that the engine and CVT transmission for the new model are unchanged.

This applies to both the Iriz Active and Persona facelift. The two B-segment models are expected to soldier on with the same four-cylinder engine options. The 1.3L mill outputs 95PS and 120Nm of torque (likely only for the Iriz), while the 1.6L unit produces 109PS and 150Nm of torque.

The 2021 Proton Iriz Active and Persona facelift are certainly shaping up to be quite interesting options for those who are looking to get affordable B-segment cars. Hopefully, Proton will be launching the two models soon – maybe right before the government’s sales tax exemption expires at the end of June 2021.
