Proton continues to deliver more units of its very popular B-segment SUV, the Proton X50, to eager customers. Last month, the national carmaker fulfilled as many as 3,583 bookings of the X50, which is slightly higher than the 3,513 units delivered the previous month in March 2021.
To date, over 15,237 bookings of the X50 have been fulfilled. But given that a whopping 40,000 bookings were made for the SUV, Proton still has some ways to go to fulfill all outstanding orders. The sales tax exemption given by the government is set to expire in two months as well, so not everyone will be able to enjoy the current tax-free prices for the X50.
Nonetheless, April 2021 was still a good month for Proton. Aside from the X50, the carmaker also delivered 2,101 units of the Proton X70 in the same month. In total, over 5,684 SUVs were sold by Proton in April 2021, which is just a bit less than 5,850 SUVs sold by the national carmaker in March 2021.
Of course, Proton’s best-selling car is still the Proton Saga with 5,472 units of the A-segment sedan sold last month. The Proton Persona (2,266), Iriz (974), and Exora (616) also posted their best figures for 2021, with the Exora still maintaining its lead in the C-segment MPV market.
“For Proton, we are continuing with efforts to meet the strong demand for our products while maintaining a high level of product quality. At the same time, we are focusing on improving customer service and addressing issues related to spare parts availability, which is vital as our sales volume increases,” said the CEO of Proton Edar, Roslan Abdullah.
“We estimate the situation will see significant improvement as the year progresses but we are working hard to move up that timeline,” he added.
