Proton X50 Received 40,000 Bookings to Date – Booking For Standard Model Suspended
April 16, 2021 Andrew Cheng

By the end of 2020, the hugely popular Proton X50 already received over 30,000 bookings. Now, the number has grown to a whopping 40,000 bookings. To shorten waiting time for the B-segment SUV, Proton is also suspending bookings for the Standard model.

That’s right, you won’t be able to place a booking for the Standard variant of the Proton X50 until further notice. Speaking to The Edge, Proton said that the Standard model “had the fewest bookings, accounting for only 5%. Due to these circumstances, we decided to temporarily suspend bookings only on the Standard variant of the X50 to focus on the larger population of bookings.”

Proton added that based on current projections, the waiting period for the X50 is about six months, though there are a number of customers that have waited longer than that. On the bright side, the national carmaker has definitely ramped up production of the SUV. Last month alone, Proton delivered 3,513 units of the X50.

According to the carmaker, this figure is already “above the initial planned capacity,” and Proton is planning to increase the production capacity of the X50 even further throughout the year. Hopefully, this would translate to faster booking fulfilment. As of March 2021, 11,654 units of the SUV have been delivered.

Without a doubt the Proton X50 is a very attractive B-segment SUV, and the huge number of bookings for the model certainly reflect this. If you’d like to learn more about the X50, check out our comprehensive video review above!
