Proton is slowly (but steadily) fulfilling more bookings of its very popular B-segment SUV, the Proton X50. Last month, the national carmaker delivered as many as 3,513 units of the X50, making it the second best-selling SUV in March 2021. It’s positioned right behind the Perodua Ativa in sales, which were delivered to 4,345 customers last month.
As many as 11,654 bookings of the X50 have been fulfilled to date. Given that over 30,000 bookings were made for the SUV, Proton still has some ways to go to fulfill all outstanding orders. The sales tax exemption given by the government is set to expire in three months as well, so chances are, not everyone will be able to enjoy the current tax-free prices for the X50.
Nonetheless, March 2021 was a good month for Proton. Aside from the X50, the carmaker also delivered 2,337 units of the Proton X70 in the same month. In total, over 5,850 SUVs were sold by Proton in March 2021, beating its previous record of 4,820 SUVs delivered in February 2021.
Of course, Proton’s best-selling car is still the Proton Saga; 5,589 units of the A-segment sedan were sold last month. The Proton Persona (2,151), Iriz (810), and Exora (584) also posted their best figures for the year, with the Exora maintaining its lead in the C-segment MPV market.
“March was a very good sales month as we achieved our highest figure in 90 months but our sense of achievement is tempered by the fact that it could have been even better if we were able to produce more units,” said the CEO of Proton Edar, Roslan Abdullah.
“As things stand, we still have a large order bank to fulfill, so over the next few months, Proton will strive to increase production while maintaining our focus on delivering high quality products,” he added.
