Great news for those who are waiting to get their Proton X50; the national carmaker seems to have ramped up production of the hugely popular B-segment SUV quite a bit. With over 3,345 units delivered in February 2021 last month – the highest monthly figure yet – as many as 8,141 bookings of the X50 have been fulfilled.
While it’s great to see Proton finally producing more units of the X50, it still has some ways to go to fulfill all outstanding orders of the SUV; yours truly is still waiting to get an allocation for the Flagship model. On top of that, last year alone, over 30,000 bookings were placed for the X50. Hopefully, the production of the SUV will continue to improve over the next few months to meet consumer demand.
Anyway, with 3,345 units of the X50 delivered in February 2021, this is the highest monthly sale ever achieved by an SUV in Malaysia. So not only is the X50 the best-selling SUV in its segment, it also dominates the whole local SUV market last month; that’s quite an achievement.
Proton further added that it delivered 1,475 units of the Proton X70 in February 2021, which brings the total number of SUVs delivered by the carmaker to 4,820 units last month alone. Proton mentioned that this is the highest amount of SUV sold (in a month) for any car brand in the country.
“Thanks to the efforts of the government to ensure a continuation of economic activity during the MCO, we were able to produce more cars and in so doing started to clear our backlog of orders. This is important as we need to consistently deliver on the bookings made to avoid a rush before the PENJANA incentives expire at the end of June this year,” said the CEO of Proton Edar, Roslan Abdullah.
If you’re like me, who have placed a booking for the Proton X50 on day one (16 September), there’s a good chance we will be taking delivery of the B-segment SUV very, very soon. The high amount of units delivered last month certainly looks promising.
