Huawei just unveiled its third foldable smartphone, the Huawei Mate X2. Sporting a brand new inward-folding screen design akin to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, the Mate X2 now features two displays instead of only one, along with a number of other notable improvements.

Let’s start with the Mate X2’s two new screens. The primary internal screen is an 8-inch 2480 x 2200 OLED panel free of any cutout for a camera, while the exterior display is a 6.45-inch 2700 x 1160 OLED screen with an oblong-shaped hole-punch cutout for the 16MP selfie camera. On top of that, both displays have a refresh rate of 90Hz as well; fast enough for a fluid user experience.

Internally, the Mate X2 is powered by Huawei’s very own Kirin 9000 chipset, the very same processor found under the hood of the Mate 40 Pro. It also has 8GB of RAM, a 4,400mAh battery with 55W fast charging, and it runs on EMUI 11 based on Android 10. However, the company mentioned that the phone will be updated to Huawei’s own operating system, HarmonyOS, sometime in April 2021.

In the camera department, the Mate X2 features a quad camera system made up of a 50MP f/1.9 primary shooter, a 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle lens, a 12MP f/2.4 telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom, and another 8MP f/4.4 “SuperZoom” telephoto camera that can do 10x optical zoom. All in all, quite a sophisticated camera configuration.

The Huawei Mate X2 is available in two variants: the 256GB model retails at 17,999 Chinese yuan (about RM11,265), while the 512GB version costs 18,999 yuan (approximately RM11,885). It will be available for purchase in China on 25 February, though it remains to be seen if it will also be released in other markets.
