Sony just introduced its range of 2021 Bravia XR TVs, and they are quite a bit better than their predecessors. Not only do these TVs support 120Hz at 4K resolution with variable refresh rate – making it ideal for those that are looking for a new TV to complement the PlayStation 5 – it runs on Google TV as well.
The 2021 Bravia XR TV offerings include four distinct lineups: there’s the range-topping Master Series Z9J 8K LED TV, Master Series A90J 4K OLED TV, A80J 4K OLED TV, and the most affordable of the lot, the X90J 4K LED TV. Naturally, these TVs feature HDMI 2.1, allowing them to run 4K content at 120Hz.
Aside from that, Sony also highlighted the fact that these Bravia XR TVs come with a Cognitive Processor XR chip, which goes beyond “conventional AI.” By dividing the screen into hundreds of zones, this chip can “cross-analyse around a few hundred thousand different elements that make up a picture in a second” to produce more lifelike image quality.
And then there’s the underlying operating system of the Bravia XR TVs, Google TV. Basically, the user interface of these TVs will be very similar to that of Google’s latest Chromecast. There will be personalised recommendations, the ability to bookmark shows and movies to the Watchlist – you can even do so with your phone or laptop – and of course, voice control with the “Hey Google” command.
Price and availability of the 2021 Sony Bravia XR TVs have not been revealed yet, though Sony Malaysia confirmed that these TVs will be making their way here. In the meantime, you can check out Sony’s current TV lineup on its website.
