Honda Malaysia just released its sales figures for the 2020. With over 60,469 units sold, the Japanese company maintains its position as the top non-national car brand in Malaysia for the sixth consecutive year. Aside from that, the carmaker also delivered 10,800 units of the all-new Honda City to date; that’s really quite impressive.
In December 2020 alone, Honda Malaysia delivered 5,500 units of the City, which is the highest monthly sales in the history of the B-segment sedan. On top of that, the City also received 15,200 bookings – it’s proving to be a real winner for the Japanese carmaker.
According to Honda Malaysia, the V model of the City – the range-topping petrol variant – accounts for 52% of total sales. The Platinum White Pearl colour option is also the most popular choice, representing 26% of overall sales for the City. It’ll be interesting to see if the highest-end RS e:HEV variant – this hybrid model is expected to be launched sometime this month – will further bolster the sales of the sedan.
Of the 60,469 units sold by Honda Malaysia, the City actually made up 34% of that figure; it is the carmaker’s most popular model in 2020. This is followed by the Honda Civic; the C-segment sedan accounts for 20% of total sales. In third place is the Honda HR-V with 17% contribution.
Now that the government’s sales tax exemption for locally assembled (CKD) cars – which is the majority of Honda models sold here in Malaysia – has been extended to 30 June 2021, we reckon the carmaker’s strong sales performance will maintain its momentum. Not only is the range-topping RS e:HEV variant of the City arriving here soon, Honda Malaysia is also running a Chinese New Year promotion until 31 January 2021.
