While everyone’s attention is on the highly sought-after Proton X50, the national carmaker is working on a number of new models behind the scenes. Well, not entirely new ones, but limited editions of its existing models: leaked images of the R3-branded Proton Iriz and Proton Saga have started circulating online.
Just recently, WapCar received a several images of the special edition Iriz with R3 brandings from one of its readers. In the meantime, we’re gonna call this the Iriz R3 Edition for the sake of clarity, though it obviously doesn’t have an official name yet.

Anyway, just like how it was with the Proton Saga Anniversary Edition, the leaked images show that the exterior of the Iriz R3 Edition has some yellow accents here and there. These include a yellow streak across the front end of the B-segment hatchback, as well as side mirrors finished in the same colour. It seems to be sporting new blacked-out alloy wheels as well, though any performance upgrade is unlikely.
On the inside, only the front seat of the Iriz R3 Edition is pictured with the R3 design. In fact, this looks very similar to the seat of the Saga R3 Edition. Leaked pictures of this limited edition A-segment sedan were shared by Careta, which also gave us a look at the dashboard of the upcoming model. As expected, the black and yellow colour scheme continues in the interior.

Looking back at our previous report, the Proton Iriz – along with its sedan sibling, the Proton Persona – will be facelifted sometime this year with a four-speed automatic gearbox, among other changes. Given that the Iriz R3 Edition looks similar to the existing model, we reckon this is not the facelifted version.
Anyway, now that leaked images of the R3-branded Iriz and Saga have started appearing online, we reckon Proton will launch these two models in the near future. Rest assured, we will keep a close eye on this.
