August 25, 2020 Andrew Cheng

If you’re in the market for a convertible laptop, the new Acer Spin 5 could be for you. Sporting a premium, thin and lightweight design, as well as very long (quoted) battery life, it’s an accomplished productivity-focused laptop, though it does cost quite a bit of money too.

Two variants of the Spin 5 are offered in Malaysia. The base model comes with an Intel Core i5-1035G4 processor paired with 8GB of RAM for RM4,399. The higher-end Core i7-1065G7 variant, on the other hand, features double the RAM (16GB) with a RM5,299 price tag.

Beyond the different chipset and RAM capacity, other hardware of the two Spin 5 models are identical. The display, for one, is a sharp 13.5-inch 2256 x 1504 touch-enabled IPS screen. It also supports the Acer Active Stylus bundled with the laptop, which offers 4,096 different levels of pressure.

Battery life of the Spin 5 is very impressive as well. According to Acer, the laptop can last up to 15 hours on a single charge. It’s a very lofty claim, so it’ll be interesting to see if it can actually deliver this level of battery life. We’ll definitely put this to the test once it is in for review.

Rounding out the specifications of the Spin 5 include 512GB of SSD storage, a thin 14.9mm chassis that tips the scales at 1.2kg, and Intel Iris Plus Graphics.

The Acer Spin 5 is now available in Malaysia. To recap, the Core i5 model costs RM4,399, while the Core i7 configuration retails at RM5,299. If you purchase it before 30 September, you can get a RM100 discount for either laptops, along with a number of freebies.
