Asus will be launching the new ZenFone 7 series in its home country Taiwan next week. Based on previous leaks and rumours, two devices are expected to be introduced: the regular ZenFone 7, as well as the higher-end ZenFone 7 Pro.

What (supposedly) differentiates the two phones is the chipset powering them, among other things. The ZenFone 7 Pro is said to be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ chipset, while the ZenFone 7 is believed run on a standard Snapdragon 865 SoC instead.

More interestingly, according to a report from GSMArena, the ZenFone 7 series will retain the flipping camera mechanism. This allows users to take selfie shots with the same rear camera system, so you get higher quality images. As for the camera module itself, the primary sensor is believed to be a 64MP unit complemented by a 12MP ultra-wide angle lens.

On top of that, if the ZenFone 7 series still uses the flipping camera mechanism, we can expect the two devices to have an all-screen screen without the disturbance of a notch or hole-punch cutout. Looking at the teaser of the upcoming phone below, this seems likely.

To recap, the Asus ZenFone 7 series is scheduled to be released on 26 August in Taiwan. If you’re looking forward to get the device here in Malaysia, don’t hold your breath. We’ve spoken to an Asus representative, and we were told that it’s unlikely the ZenFone 7 lineup will be officially launched here, unfortunately enough.
