Ghost of Tsushima is getting a co-op mode later this fall, and it will be offered for free to existing owners of the game. Dubbed Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, it’s an online multiplayer mode that can be played with up to four players.
Looking at the trailer for Legends, it seems to be a pretty fleshed out gameplay mode. Designed to be an exclusively cooperative gameplay experience, players can choose between four different classes: Samurai, Ronin, Assassin, and Hunter. In this online co-op mode, you’ll be battling against enemies with supernatural abilities, as Sucker Punch puts it.
At the moment, the studio has yet to reveal more information on the four different classes in Legends, but it’s confirmed that each of them will have unique abilities and advantages. We can get an idea of the differences based on the short trailer above. The Hunter, for one, wields a bow, and the Ronin seems to have a special skill of sorts.
Legends is an additional gameplay mode for Ghost of Tsushima, so it’s not related to the game’s main story mode at all, which follows the journey of Jin Sakai. Instead, Legends focuses on “four warriors who have been built up as legends in stories told by the people of Tsushima.” If you’ve played through the game, you might have come across these stories.
Interestingly, Legends has a number of Story co-op missions reserved for two players. These missions will have increasing difficulty with the same combat system based on the single-player campaign, but with “new magical twists.” Given that you’ll be going against supernatural enemies, you can expect to get some new skills to be on equal grounds with them.
Alternatively, you can play with up to four player in Legends, but there are no Story missions with this amount of players. Instead, they will take on wave-based Survival missions. If this doesn’t sound particularly enticing, there’s the four-player Raid, which will be introduced shortly after the launch of Legends.
According to Sucker Punch, the Raid will “send you and your partners to an entirely new realm to challenge a brutal, terrifying enemy.” Sounds almost like Monster Hunter, doesn’t it?
