Xiaomi just unveiled the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra for the Chinese market, and it’s sporting some very high-end hardware. Not only does it have a camera system that can do 120x zoom, it also comes with a 120Hz screen and support for fast 120W charging.

Aesthetically, The Mi 10 Ultra looks similar to the other Mi 10 phones, except for the new camera module on the back. The quad camera system now comes with a 48MP f/1.85 primary sensor, a 48MP f/4.1 periscope telephoto lens capable of 10x optical zoom or 120x digital zoom, a 20MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle shooter, and a 12MP f/2.0 portrait camera.

Needless to say, this is an impressive camera configuration. In fact, the Mi 10 Ultra is currently sitting at the top of DxOMark’s ranking. According to the site, the quad camera system has excellent detail preservation, accurate white balance, wide dynamic range – even for the ultra-wide angle sensor – and good bokeh effect with natural-looking blur.

Of course, the Mi 10 Ultra’s camera performance does have a number of shortcomings too. For one, there are some artifacts and unnatural texture rendering in HDR shots, along with a more noticeable noise level and loss of detail in ultra-wide angle shots. But all in all, the Ultra still gets a total score of 140; the highest score DxOMark ever gave for a smartphone camera.

Besides that, there’s the extremely fast 120W fast charging rate of the Mi 10 Ultra. According to Xiaomi, this allows the phone’s 4,500mAh battery to be fully charged in only 23 minutes. If you’re in a rush, a five-minute charge is enough to get the battery from completely empty to 41% – this is very impressive charging rate.

And then there’s the equally fast 120Hz screen of the Mi 10 Ultra; an improvement over the regular Mi 10’s 90Hz display. Beyond the faster refresh rate, this is still a 6.67-inch 2340 x 1080 AMOLED panel with a hole-punch cutout on the top left of the screen for the 20MP selfie camera.

Other specifications of the Mi 10 Ultra include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset – not the newer Snapdragon 865+ SoC, oddly enough – up to 16GB of RAM, three storage options (128GB, 256GB, and 512GB), an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and MIUI 12 based on Android 10 out of the box.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra will be available for purchase in China from 16 August onwards with a 5,299 Chinese yuan starting price; that comes up to about RM3,200. Naturally, there’s no word yet on the Malaysian availability of the Mi 10 Ultra.
