Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 & Galaxy Buds Live Now in Malaysia; Priced From RM699
August 7, 2020 Andrew Cheng

The recently announced Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 smartwatch and Galaxy Buds Live wireless earbuds have been confirmed for the Malaysian market. Unveiled alongside the new Galaxy Note 20 series, these two products are quite interesting, especially the Buds Live.

Here in Malaysia, the Galaxy Buds Live earbuds retail at RM699, and it is available in three colours: Mystic Bronze, Mystic Black, and Mystic White. As for the Galaxy Watch 3, it goes for RM1,699 or RM1,799 for the 41mm and 45mm models respectively. The 41mm variant is offered in Mystic Bronze and Mystic Silver, while the bigger 45mm version comes in Mystic Black and Mystic Silver.

Out of the two products, the Galaxy Buds Live is arguably the more exciting product, especially with its…unique bean-like design. In fact, this is not your traditional pair of wireless earbuds: they don’t actually come with any ear tips. Because of this unconventional design, these earbuds basically just sit in your ears’ contours, so you’ll definitely hear the outside world with the earbuds “on.”

That’s a little odd, given that the Buds Live actually comes with active noise cancellation. It wouldn’t be able to cut down on ambient noise quite as well as traditional earbuds like Sony’s WF-1000XM3, but according to Samsung, it will be able to “reduce background noises without missing what’s important, like voices and announcements.”

As for battery life, the Buds Live can last for six hours – eight hours with ANC and Bixby Voice switched off – on a single charge. With the charging case, you can get a total of 21 hours of use or 29 hours with ANC disabled.

And then there’s the Galaxy Watch 3, the successor to 2018’s Galaxy Watch. For the most part, it looks largely the same as the previous model, complete with a rotating bezel and rugged-looking design. There are some notable changes, of course. Not only is it thinner and smaller, it’s also 15% lighter now, which should make it feel more comfortable on the wrist.

Other specifications of the Galaxy Watch 3 include an OLED screen, a stainless steel case, better sleep tracking capability – the algorithm has been reworked – and in the near future, it will be able to monitor blood oxygen (SpO2 and VO2 Max). It can also measure blood pressure and electrocardiography (EKG), though these two features will only be enabled in certain markets.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is now available for pre-order in Malaysia until 20 August; those who place their order of the smartwatch in this time period will get a complimentary wireless charger worth RM239. The Samsung Galaxy Buds Live, on the other hand, will go on sale locally on 21 August.
