August 5, 2020 Andrew Cheng

Samsung Malaysia just revealed the local pricing of the brand new Galaxy Note 20 series. Given the premium positioning of the two new Note 20 smartphones, it’s not surprising that these are costly devices: they retail from RM3,899 to a whopping RM5,199.

Of course, the RM3,899 starting price is for the 4G variant of the standard Galaxy Note 20. The 5G model, on the other hand, goes for RM4,299. Regardless of which variant you go for, the Note 20 will come with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Three colour options are available: Mystic Grey, Mystic Bronze, and Mystic Green – the last one is exclusive to the 5G model.

As for the higher-end Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, only one variant of the premium device is offered. Packed with 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM, this flagship smartphone costs RM5,199 in Malaysia. Just like the regular Note 20, it is offered in three different shades: Mystic Bronze, Mystic Black, and Mystic White.

To sweeten the deal, those who purchase the Galaxy Note 20 or Note 20 Ultra will be bundled with a pair of wireless earbuds. Every pre-order of the Note 20 will come with a complimentary Galaxy Buds+ (worth RM599), while those who place a pre-order for the Note 20 Ultra will receive the new Galaxy Buds Live worth RM699.

To recap, the new Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is the more exciting phone of the two. Not only does it come with a new 108MP triple camera system with a laser autofocus sensor – along with a a 12MP f/3.0 periscope telephoto lens and a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle shooter – it also features a HDR+ certified 6.9-inch 1440p Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with a fast 120Hz refresh rate.

As for the regular Note 20, it doesn’t have the sophisticated 108MP triple camera system of the Ultra, but it still offers three different focal lengths: a 12MP f/1.8 primary sensor, a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle shooter, and a 64MP f/2.0 telephoto lens. As for the display, it features a more conventional 6.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED Plus screen with a 60Hz refresh rate; it is also HDR10+ certified.

Both Galaxy Note 20 devices are powered by the same Samsung Exynos 990 chipset, and the S Pen of the two phones have been improved with better latency as well. There are also other neat new features for the S Pen, including more practical Air Actions gestures.

Pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series will open tomorrow on 6 August at 10AM until 20 August or while stocks last. If you’d like to learn more about Samsung’s latest flagship smartphones, check out our hands-on of the two Note 20 devices right here.
