The Pixel 4a has been leaked for many months now, and it seems like Google will finally launch the mid-range smartphone next week on 3 August. Rumoured to retail for less than RM1,500, the Pixel 4a is set to be Google’s most enticing mid-ranger yet.
First spotted by 9to5Google, a teaser for the Pixel 4a appeared on Google’s online store. At a glance, it looks like an incomplete page with “lorem ipsum” texts, but upon closer inspection, there are some interesting keywords describing the phone. These include words like “lowlightena,” “bokehus,” and even “longlastingis batterum.”
Oh, if you tap on the boxes at the top of the page to match the colours of Google’s logo (blue, red, yellow, blue, green, and red) the 3 August launch date will be revealed.

So what do we know about the Pixel 4a? Well, based on leaks and rumours surrounding the phone – which are likely to be accurate – Google’s upcoming mid-range smartphone is said to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset. It’s not the fastest SoC in the segment, but it should be able to provide a reasonably good level of performance.
Besides that, the Pixel 4a is rumoured to feature a single 12.2MP camera on the back. That’s right, there is no telephoto or ultra-wide angle sensor to be found here. which is unfortunate. While we’re confident the Pixel 4a can still deliver very good camera performance with the single camera system, it wouldn’t look quite as attractive as other mid-range smartphones’ camera arrays that offer multiple focal lengths.
Anyway, in the display department, the Pixel 4a is believed to sport a 5.81-inch 2340 x 1080 OLED screen with a hole-punch cutout at the top left of the display to house the rumoured 8MP f/2.0 selfie camera. This is said to be the very same front-facing camera found on the Pixel 3a, so you can expect to get similar results.
Other leaked specifications of the Pixel 4a include a 3,080mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging, 6GB of RAM, 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, a rear fingerprint sensor, and the return of the 3.5mm headphone jack; it was missing on the Pixel 4.
The Google Pixel 4a is expected to be announced on 3 August next week. Rumours indicate that the mid-range phone could go for as low as $349, which comes up to about RM1,480. We’ll find out next week if this really is the starting price of the Pixel 4a.
