The OnePlus Nord is confirmed to be coming to Malaysia, but we still don’t know exactly when or how much the mid-range smartphone will cost here. Nonetheless, OnePlus does have a pretty interesting thing in store for Malaysian fans: you stand a chance to get a OnePlus Nord for only RM99 on 4 August next week.
This deal is offered as a mystery box on OnePlus’ official Shopee store. As many as 450 boxes are available, but only two of them will include the OnePlus Nord. Yes, the odds are not great, but there are a number of other items included in the boxes that don’t contain the phone.
These include the new OnePlus Buds – as many as 10 of the wireless earbuds will be included in the 450 mystery boxes – as well as 15 limited edition OnePlus Nord Tyvek Jackets. If you don’t get any of these items, the other boxes will be filled with a number of OnePlus-branded merchandises, such as a T-shirt, a tote bag, a water bottle, or a set of waterproof stickers.
Of course, it wouldn’t feel great if you don’t win any of the big ticket item, so every mystery box will include a RM99 voucher code to be used on OnePlus’ official Shopee store. If you already plan to purchase the Nord, the OnePlus Buds, or any other product from the store anyway – even if nothing else is listed on the store yet – it’s a win-win situation.
Anyway, the Nord itself is quite an interesting mid-range smartphone. It’s powered by a reasonably fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset – giving it 5G connectivity – which is paired with 12GB of RAM; that’s the RAM capacity listed in the mystery box product page. It should come with 256GB of storage as well, so it’s likely we’re getting the range-topping configuration of this mid-range smartphone.
Other specifications of the Nord include a 6.44-inch 1080p AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, a quad camera system (48MP f/1.75 primary + 8MP f/2.25 ultra-wide angle + 5MP f/2.4 depth + 2MP f/2.4 macro), two selfie cameras (32MP f/2.45 main + 8MP f/2.45 ultra-wide angle), a 4,115mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging, and an in-screen fingerprint sensor.
