OnePlus Nord Finally Official: Snapdragon 765G, 90Hz Fluid AMOLED Screen, Coming to Malaysia Soon
July 21, 2020 Andrew Cheng

After weeks of teasing, the OnePlus Nord is finally here. Unlike other recent smartphones from the Chinese company, the Nord is a mid-range device with some pretty neat features, including an AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chip, and of course, 5G connectivity.

Aesthetically, the Nord is unmistakably a OnePlus product. It has a minimalist rear panel design with an oblong-shaped hole-punch cutout on the top left of the screen housing two selfie cameras. That’s right, the Nord has a dual selfie camera system, which is made up of a 32MP f/2.45 primary sensor and an 8MP f/2.45 ultra-wide angle lens for capturing group selfies.

On the back, the Nord has a quad camera system with the same 48MP f/1.75 main sensor as the OnePlus 8, complete with optical image stabilisation. The other three sensors, on the other hand, are made up of an 8MP f/2.25 ultra-wide angle lens, a 5MP f/2.4 depth camera, and a 2MP f/2.4 macro shooter. Unfortunately, there’s no telephoto sensor here, just like the OnePlus 8.

Speaking of which, the Nord’s 6.44-inch 1080p AMOLED screen also has a 90Hz refresh rate like the OnePlus 8. While that’s not quite as fast as the OnePlus 8 Pro’s 120Hz panel, it’s still good enough to provide a smooth user experience. Plus, it’s an AMOLED display, so you can expect to get vibrant colours, deep blacks, and great viewing angles. Not a bad screen at all for a mid-range smartphone.

In the performance department, the Nord is powered by a Snapdragon 765G. Not only does it give the phone 5G connectivity, it’s also a reasonably powerful chipset. After all, it’s Qualcomm’s best SoC outside of the flagship-tier Snapdragon 8 series chips, so you should get pretty good processing power out of the Snapdragon 765G.

Battery capacity of the Nord is quite generous as well. Rated at 4,115mAh, this cell will be able to offer above average battery life. On top of that, OnePlus says that this battery can be charged up to 70% from completely empty in just 30 minutes. This is thanks to the phone maker’s Warp Charge 30T fast charging technology.

Other specifications of the Nord include either 8GB or 12GB of RAM, two storage options (128GB and 256GB), an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and OxygenOS based on Android 10 out of the box.

The OnePlus Nord will be making its way to Malaysia in the very near future. While we don’t know exactly when this will happen, a local Shopee store and a Facebook page have already been set up for the mid-range smartphone. Naturally, no local pricing has been revealed yet for the Nord, though it does start at 24,999 Indian rupee for the Indian market, which comes up to about RM1,430.
