Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Series Launching on 5 August; Galaxy Z Fold 2 Also Expected
July 8, 2020 Andrew Cheng

Samsung just sent out the invitation for its next Galaxy Unpacked event. Set to take place on 5 August, this is likely the launch event for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series. In fact, we may even see the introduction of the Galaxy Fold‘s successor.

Looking at the teaser video for the Unpacked event, it clearly shows the signature S Pen of the Galaxy Note series in the beginning. It makes a droplet with a splash of colour, likely showcasing the new “Mystic Bronze” colourway of the Note 20. After all, images of the unreleased phone with the colour option have already circulated online since earlier this month.

Based on recent leaks of the Galaxy Note 20, we do have some idea of what the flagship smartphone could offer. For one, it seems to sport a smaller Infinity-O cutout at the top of the screen for the front-facing camera; the panel itself is also expected to feature a fast 120Hz refresh rate like the Galaxy S20 smartphones. The overall design of the phone, on the other hand, seems to remain largely the same with a squared-off body.

On the back of the Galaxy Note 20, there’s the new camera module. It looks pretty similar to the Galaxy S20’s equally large array of sensors – complete with the big camera bump – and the bottom lens appears to be a periscope-style telephoto shooter. Rumours claim that the Note 20 won’t feature the same 100x Space Zoom of the S20 Ultra, though we reckon it will still be quite far-reaching.

Just like last year’s Galaxy Note 10 series, there will supposedly be two different variants of the Galaxy Note 20.

As for the successor to the eye-catching Galaxy Fold, it’s expected to be introduced as the Galaxy Z Fold 2 at the Unpacked event. This is likely done to streamline the branding for the Korean company’s foldable smartphones, which include the Galaxy Z Flip. Speaking of which, the 5G version of the Z Flip is also said to be unveiled at the same launch event.

Anyway, compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is believed to come with larger displays. The internal screen is said to be increased to 7.7-inch, while the secondary, outer display will be bigger too, though no exact figure has been leaked yet. Naturally, the Z Fold 2 is tipped to come with the latest high-end hardware as well.

Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event will be streamed online on 5 August; you can catch the live stream on Samsung’s official website at 10PM Malaysian time. You can also register your interest for “the next Galaxy” right here.
