Dell G7 15 Gaming Laptop Lands in Malaysia 14 July for RM6,499
June 26, 2020 Andrew Cheng

Dell is launching a new gaming laptop in Malaysia next month: the completely redesigned Dell G7 15. Sporting a slimmer design with sleeker looks, it’s quite an interesting gaming laptop with reasonably powerful hardware under the hood.

The full list of configuration for the G7 15 has not been revealed yet for the Malaysian market, but we do know the specifications of one variant. The most affordable model of the gaming laptop retails at RM6,499 here, and if that seems quite steep, you do get some capable hardware for that kind of money.

For one, this variant of the Dell G7 15 features an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card. Granted, it’s not the most powerful GPU in the market now, but it is capable enough to run most AAA titles with high frame rates. In fact, its level of performance is very close to that of the higher-end RTX 2060, though you don’t get RTX-specific features like ray tracing with the GTX 1660 Ti.

Processing power, on the other hand, is handled by a 10th generation Intel Core i7-10750H processor. Compared to its direct predecessor, the Core i7-9750H, the new chip is an incremental upgrade with only higher clock speeds. Regardless, it will be able to keep up with the GTX 1660 Ti GPU.

In the display department, the G7 15 features a fast 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 display with a 144Hz refresh rate. Thanks to the high refresh rate, every motion on the screen will look extra smooth; ideal for fast-paced games. The bezels surrounding the display have also been shrunk, giving the gaming laptop a modern-looking design.

Further highlighting the sleek appeal of the G7 15 is its reduced thickness. Compared to its predecessor, the chassis of the G7 is now thinner by 4mm, reducing the side profile to 20.5mm at its thickest point. The all-metal construction of the chassis – and the strip of light that runs through the front of the laptop – also gives the machine premium look and feel.

Other specifications of the G7 15 include 8GB of RAM, 512GB of fast PCIe NVMe SSD storage, a four-zone RGB keyboard, and a 56WHr battery or an optional 86WHr cell.

The Dell G7 15 gaming laptop will be available for purchase in Malaysia from 14 July onwards. As mentioned, it starts at RM6,499, and it’ll be interesting to see if the Malaysian market will receive the 4K OLED screen option; you don’t often see a gaming laptop with an OLED panel in the market.
