Acer Unveils New Swift 5 With 11th Gen Intel Tiger Lake Chips & ConceptD 3 Ezel
June 23, 2020 Andrew Cheng

Acer’s Next@Acer Global Press Conference is a big affair for the Taiwanese company, and we got an early look at two products unveiled at the event today. These include the unique ConceptD 3 Ezel convertible, as well as the refreshed Swift 5 productivity laptop, which sports “the latest Intel processors.”

It’s curious that Acer doesn’t outright detail the Swift 5’s processor, given that it does so with its other products. However, the company does mention that the Swift 5 comes with Intel’s new Xe graphics architecture, which is found in the upcoming 11th generation Tiger Lake chips. It makes sense, given that Tiger Lake is the successor to the current Ice Lake CPUs for Intel’s U-series chips; these processors are typically found in productivity laptops.

Anyway, compared to its predecessor, the updated Swift 5 doesn’t look all that different, though it does have some aesthetic changes here and there. The 14-inch 1080p IPS display, for one, is now protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, giving the productivity laptop a more premium look. Of course, it’s still a touch-enabled screen as well.

Just like the previous model, the new Swift 5 retains its lightweight nature, weighing less than 1kg. Coupled with the 14.95mm thin chassis, it’s a portable laptop that’s easy to carry around. In the graphics department, it can be configured with an Nvidia GeForce MX350 GPU. All in all, the new Swift 5 is a solid update over its predecessor.

And then we have the ConceptD 3 Ezel, and it’s one interesting convertible laptop. As its name suggests, it features Acer’s signature Ezel Hinge, which allows you to move the screen around in various orientations. This is meant to appeal to creative professionals, so this laptop comes with Acer’s Active Stylus too. It features 4,096 levels of pressure, and there’s even a slot to store the stylus.

Available in two sizes (14-inch and 15.6-inch), the ConceptD 3 Ezel features a 1920 x 1080 Pantone Validated screen. This promises good colour accuracy, and the display is said to cover 100% of the sRGB colour gamut; features that are important to its target audience. It can also be configured with Intel’s 10th generation Core processors, and a choice between Nvidia’s Quadro and GTX graphics cards.

Another interesting feature of the ConceptD 3 Ezel is its lightweight nature. The 15.6-inch model weighs 1.95kg, while the 14-inch variant tips the scales at only 1.68kg.

The Acer Swift 5 and ConceptD 3 Ezel will be coming to Malaysia in the future, though we don’t know exactly when or how much they will cost here. Rest assured, will keep a close eye on the local availability of the two laptops.
