Officially announced just last month, it appears the budget-friendly Samsung Galaxy A21s is now available for purchase in Malaysia. Sporting a quad camera system, a generous 5,000mAh battery, and a power-efficient Exynos 850 chipset, those who are looking for an affordable Android smartphone should consider the A21s.

We first spotted the Galaxy A21s in SIRIM’s database, which prompted us to check the availability of the phone from popular retailers. Well, turns out, DirectD is already offering the A21s for RM939 with official warranty from Samsung Malaysia. There are also two other Galaxy A devices that are launched alongside the A21s: the Galaxy A31 (RM1,099) and Galaxy A11 (RM599).

Out of three smartphones, we reckon the Galaxy A21s is the most interesting one. Not only is it the sleekest-looking phone of the bunch – in our opinion, of course – it’s also powered by the recently unveiled Exynos 850. Fabricated on an 8nm process, this gives the processor very good power efficiency. Considering that most (if not all) budget-friendly processors are built on less power-efficient processes, it’s really quite a big deal.

But given the affordable positioning of the Exynos 850 chip, it’s not exactly a powerhouse. It’s an octa-core processor made up entirely of ARM Cortex-A55 cores, which are clocked up to 2GHz. The GPU, on the other hand, is a Mali-G52 GPU. While these are not super powerful components, they should suffice for everyday use.

Aside from that, the Galaxy A21s also has a quad camera configuration. The primary sensor is a 48MP f/2.0 shooter, which is complemented by an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle camera, a 2MP f/2.4 macro lens, and a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor. A reasonably good camera setup for an affordable smartphone.

On the front of the Galaxy A21s, the phone’s 6.5-inch 1600 x 720 HD+ LCD screen has an Infinity-O hole-punch cutout on the top left to house the 13MP f/2.2 selfie camera. The LCD panel can’t quite compare to the visual fidelity of a Super AMOLED screen, but the small bezels and hole-punch cutout do give the phone a sleek aesthetic.

Other specifications of the Galaxy A21s include 6GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, a large 5,000mAh battery with support for 15W fast charging, and a rear fingerprint sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy A21s is now available for purchase in Malaysia with a RM939 price tag. For our market, the budget smartphone is offered in three different colours: Blue, Black, and White.
