The Poco F2 Pro Is Here, and It’s a Rebranded Redmi K30 Pro
May 12, 2020 Andrew Cheng

After much anticipation, the successor to the Poco F1 is finally here: enter the Poco F2 Pro. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, it’s a powerful flagship smartphone with a sleek all-screen design. On top of that, it’s also a rebranded Redmi K30 Pro.

Of course, that’s not necessarily a bad thing; the K30 Pro itself is a handsome phone that offers excellent value for money. Complementing the fast Snapdragon 865 chipset of the Poco F2 Pro is a notchless 6.67-inch 1080p AMOLED display with a 180Hz touch response rate, which is something mobile gamers will appreciate. The high touch response rate ensures that any form of input lag is minimised.

But that’s not to be mistaken with refresh rate: the AMOLED screen of the Poco F2 Pro is still only a 60Hz panel. It would’ve been great if it had a higher refresh rate, but given the sheer value for money this device offers, we imagine it’s a “compromise” many consumers won’t mind, especially those that want the best performance for the least amount of money.

Photography wise, the Poco F2 Pro features a quad camera system on the back. The primary sensor is a 64MP shooter with optical image stabilisation, and the other three sensors are a 13MP ultra-wide angle camera, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 5MP telephoto macro lens. The pop-up selfie camera, on the other hand, is a 20MP unit.

Battery capacity of the Poco F2 Pro is quite sizeable too, rated at 4,700mAh. Poco claims that this gives the phone up to two days of battery life, which can certainly be achieved if you’re a light smartphone user. Besides that, it supports 30W fast charging as well; this supposedly allows the phone to be fully charged in 63 minutes.

Other specifications of the Poco F2 Pro include 6GB or 8GB of RAM, two storage options (128GB and 256GB), 5G connectivity, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and Poco Launcher 2.0.

The Poco F2 Pro is now available in selected markets. In Europe, the 128GB model with 6GB of RAM retails at 499 euro (about RM2,345), while the 256GB variant with 8GB of RAM goes for 599 euro (approximately RM2,815). Do note that these price tags include VAT, so expect the phone to cost less in non-European markets.

Speaking of which, the Poco F2 Pro will be launched in Malaysia in the very near future. After all, it has already been registered with SIRIM. We will keep a close eye on the local availability of the affordable flagship smartphone.
