Back at CES 2020, LG unveiled a number of new OLED 4K TVs, which is headlined by the GX “Gallery” series. If you’ve been waiting for the high-end TV to be available for purchase, you’ll be happy to know that it is coming to Malaysia very soon.
So far, we can confirm that the 65-inch model of the GX OLED TV will be sold on our shores; it is the only variant so far (OLED65GXPTA) that’s been registered under LG Electronics in SIRIM’s database. That being said, this TV is also offered in 55-inch and 77-inch sizes in other regions, so we reckon the Malaysian market will receive these two options as well.
LG’s GX lineup of OLED TVs are dubbed the Gallery series for their slim, minimalist designs. They can also be placed flush against a wall thanks to a new custom mount design; LG describes this as being “akin to a piece of art in a gallery.” In fact, this is a similar approach taken by Samsung’s The Frame 4K QLED TV.
But in comparison to Samsung’s offering, LG’x GX series has very tiny bezels surrounding the screen, not to mention the fact that it is a slim TV as well. The 65-inch model, for example, measures only 20mm thin. Given that all of the key components and ports are built into the TV itself, this is really quite impressive.
Of course, the thin profile of the GX series can be achieved through the use of OLED panels. After all, OLED screens do not require any form of backlighting, so this allows for LG to “integrate state-of-the-art picture quality in an ultra-thin form factor,” as the Korean company puts it.
Given the premium positioning of the GX series, it offers a number of high-end features. For one, the 3840 x 2160 OLED panel has a native 120Hz refresh rate, and it is also Nvidia G-Sync compatible. It supports AMD FreeSync too, so if you plan to game on this TV, you will not be disappointed.
At the time of writing, we have yet to hear from LG on the Malaysian availability of the GX Gallery series of 4K OLED TVs, though it should be landing here soon after appearing in SIRIM’s database. Local pricing has not been revealed either, but expect it to cost quite a bit of money. After all, for the US market, the GX series retails from $2,699 for the 55-inch model, which comes up to about RM11,590.
