New Realme 6 Variant With 8GB RAM Now in Malaysia for RM1,199
April 28, 2020 Andrew Cheng

The Realme 6 was launched in Malaysia last month, and the Chinese company just announced a new variant of the mid-range smartphone on our shores today. What makes this new option interesting is its amount of RAM: with 8GB of RAM, this new model has twice as much RAM over the more affordable variant.

When the Realme 6 was launched locally back in March last month, only the 128GB model with 4GB of RAM was offered. It’s a decent amount of RAM, and given the RM999 price tag of this variant, it’s a fair trade-off. This new model, on the other hand, still offers 128GB of storage, but the RAM has been bumped up considerably to 8GB.

Of course, that also drives up the price of the Realme 6 quite a bit: this new model goes for RM1,199. You’ll be paying RM200 more to get double the amount of RAM.

Beyond the RAM upgrade, other specifications of this new Realme 6 model remain the same as the more affordable option. It’s still powered by a MediaTek Helio G90T chipset, which promises up to 26% faster performance than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 SoC. It’s a lofty claim, but it does show the G90T’s level of performance.

Besides that, complementing the relatively fast chipset is a 6.5-inch 2400 x 1080 IPS display with a 90Hz refresh rate. At this price point, not many devices have a screen with this kind of refresh rate. On top of that, the panel also has a 120Hz touch sampling rate, making it more responsive to touch inputs to minimise input lag.

In the camera department, the Realme 6 features a quad camera system. It’s made up of a 64MP f/1.8 main shooter, an 8MP f/2.3 ultra-wide angle sensor, a 2MP f/2.4 macro camera, and a 2MP f/2.4 monochrome lens. As for the selfie camera, it’s a 16MP f/2.0 sensor positioned in the hole-punch cutout on the top left of the screen.

Other specifications of the Realme 6 include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a generous 4,300mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging – the company claims that the phone can be fully charged in only an hour – Realme UI based on Android 10 out of the box, and two colour options: Comet Blue and Comet White.

The Realme 6 with 8GB of RAM will be available for purchase in Malaysia from 2 May onwards. Priced at RM1,199, it’s not quite as affordable as the RM999 model with 4GB of RAM, but the price difference may be acceptable to folks that really need the extra RAM.
