Kia Seltos Appears on Local Website & Spotted in Malaysia; Launch Happening Soon?
April 17, 2020 Andrew Cheng

Kia’s brand new B-segment SUV, the Kia Seltos, could be launching in Malaysia very soon. Not only has it appeared in Kia Malaysia’s official website – revealing some of its key equipment – the SUV has also been spotted on a trailer right here on our shores.

In fact, the Seltos was actually previewed in Malaysia back in February at a dealer-only event, so it’s no secret that the SUV will be making its way here. That being said, it’s worth noting that the Seltos was only briefly shown on Kia Malaysia’s website; the product page has since been taken down.

But before it disappeared from the website, we did manage to get a glimpse of the SUV’s list of equipment for the Malaysian market. For one, it appears we’re only getting the 1.6L MPI four-cylinder petrol engine that outputs 123hp and 151Nm of torque paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. Yes, it’s unlikely we will get any turbo mill for our market.

Besides that, two trim levels of the Seltos are shown, which are the EX and GT Line models. The differences between the two variants are not specifically outlined, but expect the GT Line to get most of the creature comforts. These include fully automatic temperature control, faux leather seats with the GT Line logo, a 7-inch LCD supervision instrument cluster, and even a head-up display (HUD).

Based on what we’ve learned over the past few months, the Seltos for our local market are likely completely built-up (CBU) units from India. Since it’s not locally assembled (CKD), expect the Seltos to cost quite a bit more than other B-segment SUVs in the market now, such as the CKD Honda HR-V.

As mentioned, what seems to be local units of the Seltos have also been spotted being transported on a trailer. This image was posted by The Ajerul on its Facebook page, which shows three different colours of the SUV. These should be the Intense Red, Glacier White Pearl, and Gravity Grey colourways.

It remains to be seen exactly when the Kia Seltos will be launched in Malaysia, but it should be happening very soon, based on its appearance on Kia Malaysia’s website – albeit only briefly – and the presence of the car locally. It’ll be interesting to see how much Naza Kia Malaysia will price the Seltos once it’s available in our market.
