As promised, Realme just launched its latest mid-range smartphone in Malaysia, the Realme 6i. Based on its hardware and positioning in the series, the 6i is meant to serve as a more affordable alternative to the higher-end Realme 6, and it’s certainly priced as such.
Two variants of the Realme 6i are available for the Malaysian market. The 64GB model with 3GB of RAM retails at RM699, while the 128GB option with 4GB of RAM goes for RM899. Two colour options are offered: Green Tea and White Milk.
Even though it’s not the most well-equipped mid-range smartphone, the Realme 6i offers reasonably good value for money. Powering this device is none other than the MediaTek Helio G80 chipset, which should be fast enough for day-to-day use. Realme says that the 6i is the first device with the Helio G80 in our market.
But processing power is not the Realme 6i’s most appealing hardware: it’s battery life. Featuring a generous 5,000mAh battery – this is even larger than the Realme 6’s 4,300mAh cell – this phone should be able to return very respectable battery life. It also supports 18W fast charging (as well as reverse charging) through the USB-C port.
Unlike the Realme 6’s 90Hz screen, the Realme 6i settles for a more modest 6.5-inch 1600 x 720 IPS notched display with a conventional 60Hz refresh rate. While this panel doesn’t sound quite as impressive, the lower resolution and refresh rate do reduce the power consumption of the screen, which should further improve the phone’s battery life.
In the camera department, the Realme 6i features a quad camera system. It’s made up of a 48MP f/1.8 main shooter, an 8MP f/2.3 ultra-wide angle sensor, a 2MP f/2.4 macro lens, and a 2MP f/2.4 depth camera. Not the most sophisticated camera setup, but certainly good enough for a smartphone at this price point.
Other specifications of the Realme 6i include a 16MP f/2.0 selfie camera, a microSD card slot, a rear fingerprint sensor, and Realme UI based on Android 10 out of the box.
As mentioned, the Realme 6i is priced at RM699 and RM899 for the 64GB and 128GB models respectively. The base 64GB variant will be available for purchase in Malaysia from 23 April onwards, while the 128GB option will be sold on 25 April. Early birds can also grab the 64GB model for only RM599 from Shopee on 23 April at 12AM.
