Huawei MatePad Pro Coming to Malaysia Soon
March 27, 2020 Andrew Cheng

Huawei just confirmed that its latest Android-based tablet, the MatePad Pro, will be made available in Malaysia. Although the Chinese company did not give any concrete release date, we did receive word that a local launch will be taking place very soon.

In the tablet space, it’s evident that the market is dominated by Apple’s range of iPads, and the MatePad Pro sports a number of features to take them on; more specifically, the iPad Pro. On top of the MatePad’s Huawei M-Pencil stylus – which can detect 4,096 levels of pressure – it also comes with a keyboard case to compete with Apple’s offering.

Sure, the MatePad Pro’s keyboard case doesn’t have a dedicated trackpad or look quite as sleek as the new iPad Pro’s keyboard cover, but I can comfortably type on the MatePad’s keyboard despite its compact layout. The key travel could have been better, but hey, there’s only so much you can expect from a keyboard case.

There is, of course, one feature that is exclusive to the MatePad Pro: it supports two-way wireless charging. Basically, you can use the tablet to wirelessly charge other devices. The stylus and keyboard case of the MatePad are also charged wirelessly when they are connected to the tablet, which is a pretty cool implementation.

Aside from that, the MatePad Pro also has a 10.8-inch 2560 x 1600 display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. With small bezels surrounding the screen, Huawei claims that this tablet has an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 90%. At the top right of the display, on the other hand, is a hole-punch cutout for the 8MP f/2.0 selfie camera.

Under the hood of the MatePad Pro is none other than Huawei’s latest chipset, the Kirin 990. It’s a high-end flagship processor, so you can expect to get a good level of performance. After all, it’s the same chipset powering the rest of the company’s current crop of flagship smartphones, including the recently announced Huawei P40 series.

Other specifications of the MatePad Pro include a 13MP f/1.8 rear camera, up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, a 7,250mAh battery, as well as EMUI 10 based on Android 10 out of the box.

The Huawei MatePad Pro should be arriving in Malaysia in the very near future. If we were to take a guess, there’s a very good chance the Android tablet will be launched here sometime in April next month. Rest assured, we’ll keep a close eye on the local availability of the MatePad Pro.
