Huawei Mate Xs Retails at RM11,111 in Malaysia; Available 20 March
March 16, 2020 Andrew Cheng

Ahead of its official availability this Friday on 20 March, Huawei revealed the price tag of the Huawei Mate Xs foldable smartphone for the Malaysian market. Retailing at RM11,111, this is without a doubt a very costly device. In fact, it is the most expensive foldable phone in the market now.

But you do get a number of freebies with every purchase of the Mate Xs. Not only will you get a complimentary Huawei FreeBuds 3, you’ll also get an Envelope Leather Case for the foldable phone. Collectively, both of these items are worth RM978.

On top of that, if you purchase the Mate Xs from specific retailers, you’ll get extra freebies too. Those who get the foldable phone from Harvey Norman or Senheng will get a Huawei GT2 smartwatch thrown in for free. If you’re a CIMB credit card holder, you can get the Mate Xs online here to grab the free smartwatch as well, along with 10X CIMB bonus points for eligible cards. But do note that this offer is only limited to the first 20 units.

As for the Mate Xs itself, it’s an interesting foldable smartphone. Instead of the Samsung Galaxy Fold‘s screen that folds inward, the Xs’ flexible panel wraps around the outside of the phone. This, in turn, allows it to be closed flat when folded.

On top of that, when folded, the Mate Xs has a very usable 6.6-inch 2480 x 1148 OLED display. Opened up, the phone offers a larger 8-inch 2480 x 2200 panel, which looks great with true, deep blacks, punchy colours, and wide viewing angles.

Besides that, powering the Mate Xs is none other than Huawei’s latest Kirin 990 5G chipset. Not only does this SoC give the phone 5G connectivity, it’s also a fast, flagship-tier processor. We tested PUBG Mobile on the Mate Xs, and the game ran incredibly well, so expect a very enjoyable gaming experience with this foldable phone.

Other specifications of the Mate Xs include a Leica-branded quad camera system (40MP f/1.8 primary + 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle + 8MP f/2.4 telephoto + time-of-flight (ToF) sensor), 8GB of RAM, 512GB of internal storage, and a 4,500mAh battery with support for Huawei’s proprietary 55W SuperCharge fast charging technology.

The Huawei Mate Xs will be available for purchase in Malaysia from 20 March onwards for RM11,111. If you’d like to learn more about the foldable phone, check out our hands-on of the Mate Xs.
