Huawei P40 Pro Pays a Visit to SIRIM; Malaysian Launch Confirmed?

The Huawei P40 series will be introduced later this month on 26 March, but surprisingly enough, one of the devices in the lineup has already appeared in our local certification body’s database. This could very well be a confirmation of the P40 series’ availability here in Malaysia.

Just today, both Huawei and Zitron registered a device with the model number ELS-NX9 with SIRIM. A quick Google search shows that this is likely the Huawei P40 Pro, and looking at the SIRIM certification, it comes with 5G connectivity as well.

However, at this point in time, only the P40 Pro has appeared in SIRIM’s database. The standard P40 – which is believed to carry the model number ANA-NX9 – has not been registered with the certification body yet. That being said, we imagine it would only be a matter of time before it makes an appearance there, since the P40 Pro is already registered.

So what can we expect from the new P40 series? Well, looking at leaked renders of the phone, the P40 and P40 Pro are expected to feature an oblong-shaped hole-punch cutout for two selfie cameras at the top left of the screen. Besides that, the devices will likely sport rectangular camera modules as well.

Like previous P series smartphones, camera will be a big focus for the P40 series. If rumours are to be believed, the P40 Pro will come with as many as five cameras on the back of the phone. It’s said to be made up of a 52MP primary shooter, a 40MP ultra-wide angle sensor, a telephoto lens with 3x zoom, another telephoto shooter with a periscope structure to achieve 10x optical zoom, and a time-of-flight (ToF) sensor.

As for the standard P40, it’s expected to feature a simpler camera configuration. No concrete details have leaked yet, but it should (at the very least) come with a standard primary shooter, an ultra-wide angle camera, and a telephoto lens. Basically, the standard three focal lengths all flagship smartphones are expected to ship with.

The Huawei P40 series will be made official later this month on 26 March. Given Huawei’s heavy focus on the Malaysian market – and the fact that the P40 Pro is already in SIRIM’s database – it’s entirely possible the Chinese company’s upcoming flagship smartphones will be available here not long after the official launch.
