Exclusive: New Dell XPS 13 (2020) Variant Now in Malaysia for RM5,999
March 13, 2020 Andrew Cheng

When the new Dell XPS 13 was introduced in Malaysia, it retails from RM6,899, which is quite a steep starting price. If you wanted a more affordable variant of the premium productivity laptop, good news: it appears Dell just introduced a new option of the XPS 13.

We first spotted this new variant of the XPS 13 on Dell’s online store. Previously, the laptop can only be purchased with an Intel Core i7 processor, but that’s no longer the case. Now, there’s a Core i5-1035G1 variant of the premium notebook, which retails at just under RM6,000.

For RM5,999 (well, RM5,998.99, to be specific), this variant of the XPS 13 offers the aforementioned Core i5-1035G1 processor paired with 8GB of RAM, a 13.4-inch 1920 x 1200 InfinityEdge non-touch display with an anti-glare coating, 512GB of fast M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD storage, Intel UHD Graphics, and Windows 10 Home out of the box.

If that’s not quite enough processing power or storage for your needs, you can still opt for the highest-end configuration of the XPS 13. This range-topping RM7,799 model comes with a much sharper 13.4-inch 3840 x 2400 touch-enabled display, a Core i7-1065G7 processor paired with 16GB of RAM, and a whopping 1TB SSD.

Compared to its predecessor, the new XPS 13 brings a number of new features. The display, for one, is now a slightly bigger 13.4-inch screen with a taller 16:10 aspect ratio. The bottom bezel of the display is also very minimal, giving the laptop a much sleeker-looking design with very little bezels on all four sides of the screen.

Besides that, the latest iteration of the XPS 13 retains the webcam at the top of the screen; it even comes with Windows Hello support now. That’s quite an impressive feat for such a tiny camera module. If you don’t want to enable the facial recognition feature, you can use the fingerprint sensor built into the power button instead for biometric security.

Other specifications of the XPS 13 include a new keyboard that stretches edge-to-edge (allowing the keys to be 9% larger), two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3 support, a microSD card reader, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB-C to USB-A adapter bundled with the laptop.

The new Dell XPS 13, including the new RM5,999 option, can now be purchased on Dell’s online store. All variants of the premium laptop also come with a complimentary laptop sleeve.
