After the initial delay caused by the cancellation of Mobile World Congress 2020, the Xiaomi Mi 10 series’ global launch is finally taking place on 27 March. While it was officially unveiled in China last month, the global launch could mark the availability of the flagship smartphones in other markets, including Malaysia.

In fact, there’s a very good chance the Mi 10 series will be sold in Malaysia very, very soon. While we were going through SIRIM’s database, we noticed that Xiaomi Malaysia registered a device with the model number M2001J2G on 6 March. We can’t quite pinpoint whether this is the regular Mi 10 or Mi 10 Pro, but it’s definitely one of the two smartphones.

Given that the Mi 10 series has shown up in SIRIM’s database, we reckon Xiaomi Malaysia is gearing up to launch its latest flagship smartphones on our shores. For comparison, its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi 9, was introduced here on 3 April 2019. It’s entirely possible the Mi 10 series will be made available here around the same time.

Out of the two devices in the series, the Mi 10 Pro is naturally the higher-end smartphone. The headline feature is its quad camera system, which is made up of a 108MP f/1.69 primary shooter – it outputs 27MP images by default thanks to the use of pixel binning to improve performance – a 12MP f/2.0 telephoto lens (50mm), a longer 8MP f/2.0 telephoto sensor (94mm), and a 20MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle shooter.

As for the standard Mi 10, it has the same 108MP primary sensor, but the other three sensors are not quite as sophisticated. It has a 13MP f/2.4 ultra-wide angle shooter, a 2MP f/2.4 macro lens, and a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor.

Besides the different camera configuration, both the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro share quite a bit of hardware. These include a Snapdragon 865 chipset paired with up to 12GB of RAM, a 6.67-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display with a fast 90Hz refresh rate, 512GB of non-expandable storage (256GB for the Mi 10), as well as 5G connectivity.

Rounding out the specifications of these two phone are a 20MP f/2.0 selfie camera, an in-screen optical fingerprint sensor, and a 4,780mAh battery for the Mi 10. Oddly enough, despite its Pro moniker, the higher-end Mi 10 Pro comes with a slightly smaller 4,500mAh cell.

The global launch of the Xiaomi Mi 10 series will be happening on 27 March. Now that the Mi 10 has been registered with SIRIM, we expect the flagship series to arrive here in Malaysia soon.
