The Compact Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 Gaming Laptop with RTX 2060 Coming to Malaysia Soon

Remember the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 the Taiwanese company introduced back at CES 2020? Well, the compact, powerful 14-inch gaming laptop is finally arriving on our shores soon. In a market where such a compact gaming laptop virtually doesn’t exist, the Zephyrus G14 is definitely a unique offering.

While going through SIRIM’s database, three different companies (VSTECS Astar, Servex, and Build Technology Supply) registered a laptop with the model number GA401I. Of course, that model number can be traced back to Asus’ very own specification list for the Zephyrus G14, though we don’t know if it’s the variant with the LED dot-matrix “AniMe Matrix” display on the lid.

Nonetheless, now that the Zephyrus G14 is registered with SIRIM, it’s only a matter of time before Asus officially introduce the gaming laptop in Malaysia. We still don’t have any tentative date on when this could happen, but given that the Zephyrus G14 is set to be available globally sometime in March next month, the local launch could happen then.

Besides its compact 14-inch form factor, the Zephyrus G14’s performance level is also one of its main appeals. Under the hood of this laptop is AMD’s new Ryzen 7 4800HS processor. Not only does it perform better than Intel’s equivalent Core i7-9750H chip – based on early benchmark results – the Ryzen 7 4800HS is also built on a more power-efficient 7nm process against the i7-9750H’s 12nm process.

In fact, Asus claims that the Zephyrus G14 can last up to 10 hours on a single charge; quite impressive for a gaming laptop. This can be attributed to the power efficiency of the 7nm processor, along with the laptop’s rather generous 76WHr battery.

Like the display of most modern gaming laptops, the Zephyrus G14 features a fast 14-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate. On top of that, there are two other screen options: a Full HD 60Hz panel, or a higher resolution 1440p display with the same 60Hz refresh rate. But given that this is a powerful gaming laptop, the 1080p 120Hz screen is definitely the most enticing option.

Depending on which variant of the Zephyrus G14 you’re getting, you’ll either get an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GPU or a more feature-packed RTX 2060 graphics card. Regardless of which GPU you go for, you will get comparable performance, though the RTX 2060 will give you more features like ray tracing and Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS).

Rounding out the specifications of the Zephyrus G14 include up to 32GB of DDR4 3200MHz RAM, 512GB or a whopping 1TB of fast M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD, a 17.9mm thin chassis (or 19.9mm for the AniMe Matrix model), and 1.6kg of heft; 1.7kg for the dot-matrix variant.

Hopefully, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 will be coming to Malaysia very soon. There’s still no word yet on exactly how much it’ll cost locally, though Asus did say it’ll be offered at a price “that brings gaming to an even wider audience.”
