CES 2020 is in full swing tomorrow, and one of the most exciting products announced before the trade show opens its doors is the Asus ROG Swift 360Hz. As its name suggests, this is a gaming monitor with an incredibly fast 360Hz refresh rate. Needless to say, this display is made for esports.
Developed in collaboration with Nvidia, Asus’ ROG Swift 360Hz monitor naturally comes with G-Sync support. Not just regular G-Sync: it features an “advanced” G-Sync processor, though it’s not very clear exactly what it brings to the table.
So let’s talk about the 360Hz refresh rate of this gaming monitor. To put into context just how fast this panel is, it’s (technically) 50% faster than 240Hz monitors; that’s quite a noteworthy difference. On top of that, the 360Hz refresh rate also offers better “motion clarity, smoothness, and responsiveness,” as Asus puts it.
Given its ridiculously high refresh rate, the Swift 360Hz’s resolution is limited to only 1920 x 1080, which is more than good enough for its intended purpose. After all, only selected graphics card can push more than 360 frames per second in certain games, and most of them are competitive titles like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Overwatch.
Since it is focused on esports, it’s no surprise that the ROG Swift 360Hz isn’t an awfully big gaming monitor, measuring only 24.5 inches diagonally. While some folks may want a larger screen, a 24.5-inch panel should still be sizeable enough for comfortable competitive play.
Speaking of which, neither Asus nor Nvidia detailed the exact specifications of the panel used in the Swift 360Hz. But given the high 360Hz refresh rate, we reckon it is using a TN display. While an IPS or VA panel would provide better viewing angles and more punchy colours than a TN screen, we doubt either one of the screen technologies can hit 360Hz.
Design wise, the Swift 360Hz doesn’t look all that different from other Asus ROG gaming monitors. The back of the monitor has an illuminated ROG logo – presumably with RGB lighting – the stand is aggressively styled (complete with illumination at the base), and there’s intuitive joystick control to navigate the on-screen display (OSD).
The Asus ROG Swift 360Hz will be shown off at CES 2020, though the price and availability of this gaming monitor have not been revealed yet. Nonetheless, expect to pay a premium for a monitor of this calibre.
